Ayouni is a poem in the latest issue of Yad Mizrah Magazine RESIST – reflecting on my Iraqi Jewish two grandmothers – the tension and conflict of light and darkness, a good eye a bad eye, protection and blessing, through their lives and histories. It was cathartic to write and explore the meaning of the Evil Eye as an Iraqi Jewish mother.
